Skin Series:Pigmentation-Cause,Effect & Management

Theory

One of the tell tale signs of premature ageing is discolouration of the skin, many clients complain of unsightly pigmentation acquired by various reasons and since the human skin colour palette ranges from the very pale colour of Celtic skin to the very dark skin found in regions of sub-Saharan Africa there are many disorders of the pigmentary system. These disorders range from hypopigmentation to hyperpigmentation, regardless of the nature of the problem, the general desire of our clients is for uniformity of skin colour. In this series, we take an in-depth look at the melanotropins (MSH, Oestrogens, stress hormones) and how they influence the signalling pathway for melanin and also how pigment forms in the skin, the session wraps up with the solutions as to how we can impact this phenomenon and effectively control pigmentation disorders.
